Em Goff (they/them) is a junior at the University of Houston studying Art History. They came to the University of Houston following the completion of an Associate Degree in Arts with Honors at Lone Star College, Kingwood. Deeply passionate about learning and understanding the world, Goff is interested in archaeology, cultural criticism, and historiography. They are currently planning their undergraduate Honors Thesis on Japanese contemporary art, a topic encouraged by their time as a fellow in the MFAH’s Modern and Contemporary department. It will critically dissect the way Japanese contemporary art and Japan’s ‘kawaii kulture’ is misinterpreted by Western audiences and the role of the Japanese government and political ideology in that misinterpretation. Beyond the academic sphere, Goff is a fiction writer with a particular penchant for interstellar storytelling.
