Marisa Cruz Branco (she/her) is a recent graduate from Pitzer College with a BA in Art History. At Pitzer, she focused on indigenous art as well as depictions of non-human animals in art history. This posthumanist framework was also important for her thesis, which applied feminist, queer, and animacy theory to analyze the praying mantis symbol in Surrealist art. As a curatorial fellow at LACMA, Marisa iworks in the South and Southeast Asian art department, researching topics related to Hinduism, Buddhism, and Bollywood poster media. In her life outside of the museum, Marisa makes comics and zines that depict both the weights and joys of queer and/or Native community.
