Mia Guien (she/her) is a recent graduate of Rice University completing a double major in Art History and English and a minor in Museums and Cultural Heritage. As a Mexican-American woman, Guien is interested in greater representation of Latino/a voices in both literary and visual cultures. She completed her English Senior Thesis on the influence of colorism and mestizaje on Mexican and Mexican American murals. This upcoming year, she hopes to further develop her thesis to analyze how murals produced during the Chicano Movement appropriated Indigenous peoples and cultures. Guien is a recipient of Rice University’s Frank Lee Berry Jr. Award (2021-2022) for excellence in Art History, and was a member of Rice University’s Task Force to increase diversity measures within the Art History Department and curriculum.
